Hit another goal!

December 2nd, 2013 at 02:25 pm

My sad little IRA account has finally hit $1000. I had not been blessed with (fruitful) employment until recently (even if it is only temporary) and that fact combined with a little serious credit card debt meant that saving decent money toward retirement wasn't much of a reality til now.

So I guess I can look at it as 100 bucks a year for the last 10 years and reflect on the fact that it may be better than what most people in my age range have saved. I just know that now it will grow it to several thousand dollars now that there are no more credit card issues. It's amazing how much better I can sleep at night even with a small emergency fund, $1000 in my IRA and no interest racking up on my credit cards.

Sleep better, yeah! Glad things are going better for you, but here's wishing you the kind of long-term, well paid work you would most prefer. Smile

Awesome!! Getting started is sometimes the hardest part. Will you be adding to it regularly?

Make your contributions automatic now, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly it grows. Congratulations!

I remember when I reached 1k in retirement savings. It took me a long, long time to get there because I started small.

Congrats on hitting this milestone! Smile

Yes for the rest of my time working I will be contributing to my retirement account. Smile Automatic of course is not possible because of the employment situation. I just take x amount from the check and transfer.

I know its depressing right now that the steps forward are so small. However, the forward steps will get big and you are already reaping the security of knowing that you will NOT be dragged backward.

My drp portfolio started with KO 1 share in 1998. For 4 years (until 2002) I was not able to add a single additional share. Then I added some, and could add more.

Hi, my Hubby's biz failed in 2009. And so', we were living in debts and life was tough...very tough!
Although our close ones helped...but they eventually got tired of helping too...
And so we were like in living hell until i met a friend who introduced me to Jeunesse few months ago. It really changed my life! I am now very comfortable with my full time job ( To pay for my bills) and this side income ( for my savings)!! this side income has no limits or boundaries. I know i can save much more in time to come Smile
